The Undergraduate Musical Excellence Awards (or “UMEAs”) are service-based awards available to highly talented School of Music undergraduate students. All music students are given automatic consideration for these awards so there is no application to complete. Students to whom an award is being offered will be contacted via their Georgia State University email address. The UMEA is usually, but not always, a multi-year service-based award which offers students the opportunity to work with faculty or staff in the School of Music.
The UMEA requirements are as follows:
- Students receiving UMEAs will provide a given number of hours of service per week to the School of Music. Students will be assigned to faculty or staff within the School of Music to fulfill their work assignments.
- Award and serve amounts are:
- $2000 per year for 6 hours per week of service
- $1500 per year for 4 hours per week of service
- $1000 per year for 3 hours per week of service
- $500 per year for 2 hours per week of service
- All UMEA recipients are required to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 in order to retain the award.
- Incoming students (freshman and transfers) are awarded the UMEA based on their School of Music audition coupled with the needs of the school and recommendations from area coordinators and faculty. Returning Georgia State students are also recommended by faculty and must already have a Georgia State GPA of 3.0 or higher to be awarded a UMEA.
