Sarah Kapps
Part-time Instructor Cello School of Music- Biography
Cellist Sarah Kapps is widely known for her versatility as a musician, her passion as an educator, and her skill as a performer. She now joins the faculty at Georgia State University as an Artist Affiliate.
Previous educational posts have included the University of Texas Pan-American, Oklahoma Baptist University, William Pu Music Academy, and Wintergreen Festival Academy. She has taught violin, viola, cello, and bass at the university level in addition to music history, theory, string methods, music appreciation, and performance classes.
A champion of both very old and very new music, she has premiered works written for her, including Mark Gresham’s Guilty as the Artist #1; and Daron Hagen’s sonata for cello and piano from 2017. Her scholarly research has informed her work on Bach Suites and Sonatas and has earned acclaim in both professional and pedagogical circles. She collaborates across genres to bring classical music to wider audiences. This includes her appearances with Atlanta Celli, Chamber Cartel, Bent Frequency, Paramount Chamber Players, and many others.
No stranger to the orchestral world, she has held positions in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Roanoke Symphony, Wintergreen Festival Orchestra, is principal of John’s Creek Symphony, and has enjoyed the honors of performing as a substitute with the Atlanta Symphony, Ballet, and Opera.
Sarah Kapps holds degrees in Cello Performance from Manhattan School of Music and the Mannes College of Music.
