The performance concentration prepares students for careers as performing musicians or studio teachers. A strong background in music reading and performance (including participation in school bands, choirs, or orchestras, performance experience in small groups and as a soloist and private study) is required. Graduates in performance from Georgia State have gone on to have major careers in some of the world’s most prestigious venues.

Equips students with the competence for effective studio or class teaching of piano across all age levels. The program integrates artistic performance, verbal and musical communication techniques, knowledge of appropriate piano literature and adept use of methods and instructional materials to foster successful teaching.

The Honors Recital Competition
Participants are selected through an audition process and the chosen finalists have the honor of performing in a special recital attended by faculty, peers and music enthusiasts.
Brumby Concerto and Aria Competition
This competition, established in honor of Thomas M. Brumby, the visionary founder and chair of the School of Music, commemorates his lasting legacy and contributions to the musical community.
