Lay the Groundwork
Music Education prepares students to teach music in schools or other group settings from early childhood through adulthood. In addition to performance, our programs offer child development and learning, as well as methods of teaching music. The ideal career for nurturing a solid background in music performance, reading and an interest in sharing a love of music with others.

Our programs equip students to excel as ensemble/choral directors and empower them to create innovative, student-centered instruction. Above all, students learn how to channel their passion for music into impactful teaching effectively.
Graduates of the master’s in music education concentration have experience as excellent general, choral or instrumental music teachers in schools.
We have received the National Music in Education Award from the College Music Society for our innovative Sound Learning outreach program.
Our faculty are at the forefront of music education research, providing research-driven instruction to our students.
The concentration achieved the highest rating of Exemplary from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The 2020 rating was based on three years of assessment data gathered from students, faculty and alumni.
Students are provided extensive teaching opportunities with local schools in the metro-Atlanta area that empower aspiring educators to gain hands-on experience and positively impact classrooms, schools and communities.
Our graduates excel with a 100 percent job placement rate and a 100 percent pass rate for EdTPA. As an esteemed institution, we have been recognized for our exemplary program by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Center for Educational Partnerships in Music
These programs include large-scale collaborative projects such as the internationally acclaimed Sound Learning program with current funding from the East Lake Foundation, curriculum development projects of the Johnny Mercer Foundation, occasional partnerships with local musicians, including members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and a range of masters and doctoral graduate assistantships.
The Center is committed to promoting partnerships that serve high-quality music teaching and learning, specifically those that result from and/or generate field-specific research.
Music Cognition and Creativity Lab
We foster interdisciplinary collaborations with esteemed faculty and labs in diverse fields such as psychology, neuroscience, mathematics, computer science, occupational therapy and physics. Notably, we work closely with the TReNDS Center, benefiting from the expertise of numerous members.
Through these collaborations, we strive to unravel the complexities of music perception, cognition and its profound impact on human experience, paving the way for innovative approaches to music therapy and creative expression.
