Alumnus Henry Cheng Received an Invitation to Conduct with Cameristi della Scala
Henry Cheng received an invitation from the Cameristi della Scala to conduct in January, 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland at Victoria Memorial Hall. The chamber orchestra “Cameristi della Scala”, formed by the musicians of the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala di Milano, was founded in 1982. Cameristi della Scala has performed in many prestigious venues and concert halls throughout the world. The program Cheng conducted included Schubert Overture in “Italian Style”, Chopin Piano Concerto 1, and Mendelssohn Symphony 4.
First prize winner of the European Union Conductor’s Competition in 2018, Henry Cheng has established himself as an internationally acclaimed young Taiwanese-American Conductor. Henry Cheung received his BA in Music from Eastman School of Music and his MA in Music from Georgia State University School of Music studying under Maestro Michael Palmer.
In addition to his positions as Visiting Artist at Cornell University and Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Klangkraft Orchester, Henry will make his guest conducting debut with the MAV Symphony Orchestra, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Operetta Theater Orchestra, Witold Lutoslawski Chamber Philharmonic in Lomza, Kodaly Philharmonic, Pori Sinfonietta, Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, National Moravian-Silesian Opera, and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi. He was also a guest speaker at the Music Education & Sustainability Summit at the United Nations.
As an educator and community outreach supporter, Cheng has worked with and developed programs with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Bochumer Symphoniker, and the Indiana University Beethoven Project. Cheng still works with many middle and high schools in his hometown, Atlanta, GA.
