During July and August, assistant professor of music history and literature Marie Sumner Lott took a 6-week research trip to Germany for a new project on Romantic operas with Medieval subjects or characters. The trip was generously funded by a Research Initiation Grant from Georgia State. Sumner Lott says she found and used many surviving resources from nineteenth-century performances by the Bavarian and Prussian State Operas.
In addition, the American Musicological Society awarded Sumner Lott’s book manuscript two grants to supplement production costs, in recognition of the value of the project to the field of music history.  The book, The Social Worlds of Nineteenth-Century Chamber Music, is currently in production at the University of Illinois Press and scheduled for release in spring 2015.
