Julia Dokter holds a Ph.D. from Universiteit Utrecht (The Netherlands), a DMus in organ performance, a MMus in organ performance and an M.A. in music theory, all from McGill University (Canada). Her principal area of scholarship revolves around the history and performance practice of Baroque music. She has published articles on Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck’s use of rhetoric in his sacred organ music and is currently working on German baroque tempo (i.e., general theory, and how it relates to the notation traditions specific to organ music). Before moving to Atlanta, Julia was the organist/music director at Trinity United Church (Toronto, Canada), and First Baptist Church (Montreal, Canada).
