John Grove earned a bachelor of music and a bachelor of music education from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Some of his teachers include Ivor Rothwell (Symphony Nova Scotia), Dan Dowdakin (Atlanta Symphony) and Jonathan Sherwin (Cleveland Symphony).
He has been the Director of Bands at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School for more than two decades. He regularly freelances on Bassoon, Contrabassoon and other woodwinds around the region. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Atlanta
Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Columbus Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Greenville Symphony and Symphony Nova Scotia to name a few. As a woodwind doubler, experience includes performing in productions of The Producers, Light in the Piazza, My Fair Lady and Chicago.
For fun, he enjoys playing quartets with his wife and two sons, all of whom play the bassoon.
