Evan Ware is a music theorist and composer whose scholarly work focuses on understanding acts of musical reinterpretation, especially cover songs. An avid Frank Sinatra fan, he has contributed a chapter on Sid Vicious’s “cannibalistic cover” of “My Way” for the book Hardcore, Punk, and Other Junk: Aggressive Sounds in Contemporary Music (2014). An article on the use of ethnography in musical analysis is currently under consideration at Music Theory Online. Evan also maintains a passionate interest in film and television music, which has recently resulted in an invitation from Routledge to submit a proposal for a co-edited volume on the music of Star Trek, the first scholarly book on the topic. He has previously presented at conferences including the Society for Music Theory, the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, Music and the Moving Image, IASPM-Canada, and Music Theory Midwest. Evan maintains an active career as a composer and is currently completing a commission for the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
