The Georgia State University Choral program is lead by Dr. Deanna Joseph, Director of Choral Activities. The program is comprised of three ensembles all of which are open to the entire Georgia State University community. The University Singers and Master Singers are auditioned groups while the Choral Union does not require an audition.
- Georgia State University Singers is the School of Music’s premier vocal ensemble. Selected by competitive audition, the choir is comprised of music majors and non-majors, undergraduate and graduate students and represents the diverse population of Georgia State University. In May of 2013, the University Singers competed in La Florilège Vocal de Tours where they placed second overall in the mixed choir category. The ensemble’s invited performances include appearances before the Georgia Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association and at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards. The Singers’ tours have taken them throughout much of the United States, including Carnegie Hall on two occasions, and six international tours with stops in France, Belgium, Italy, Yugoslavia, Finland, Russian, Estonia, Canada and Great Britain.
The Master Singers is an auditioned chamber choir in the School of Music. The choir is comprised of music majors and non-majors, undergraduate and graduate students, and is conducted by Dr. Joseph and the graduate students in choral conducting. The Master Singers sing a diverse array of the finest choral repertoire and rehearse Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 pm.
The Choral Union is a large choir that is open to all Georgia State University Students. The choir is comprised of music majors and non-majors and is conducted by Dr. Joy Meade. The Choral Union rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30 pm.
